The Pull List – 9/1/2010
0Happy September, everyone!
- Brightest Day #9 – This book hasn’t been bad, but I keep waiting for it to knock my socks off. Hopefully, the book will pick up the pace since the 12 now know why they were resurrected.
- Secret Six #25 – Six vs. Six. Bring it on!
- Star Wars: The Old Republic #3 (of 6) – Meh, but I love the era so I’ll pick it up.
- Wonder Woman #602 – Yeah, I know it came out last week, but I didn’t get by the comic shop.
Fangirl Reviews – Secret Six #23 & Brightest Day #5
1
Secret Six #23 – Predators
Writer: John Ostrander
Penciler: RB Silva
Inker: Alexandre Palamaro
Colorist: Jason Wright
Letterer: Travis Lanham
Cover Art: Daniel Luvisi
Editor: Sean Ryan
The great John Ostrander pinch-hits for Gail Simone this month on Secret Six, and the book doesn’t skip a beat. Our band of villains are tricked and forced to fight for their lives against a group of rich boys who hunt humans for sport. Needless to say, they bite off more than they can chew with the Six. John does a great job in displaying the individuals Sixers in action and showcasing their personalities as they turn the tables on their would-be hunters.
I was not impressed with the artwork, but I’m spoiled by having Nicola Scott and J. Calafiore regularly drawing my favorite band of villains.
If you aren’t reading Secret Six already, shame on you! This issue is a good place to jump on to one of the best comics series going.
Brightest Day #5 – Under Pressure
Writer: Geoff Johns & Peter Tomasi
Pencilers: Ivan Reis, Ardian Syaf, & Joe Prado
Inker: Vincente Cifuentes
Colorist: Peter Steigerwald
Letterer: Rob Clark Jr.
Cover Art: David Finch, Scott Williams & Peter Steigerwald
Editors: Rex Ogle, Adam Schlagman & Eddie Berganza
This issue focuses on the Aquaman/Mera, Hawkman/Hawkgirl, and Boston/Hawk/Dove.
The story and art were good, but the BP-style oil spill pulled me right out of the story from the beginning and I never really got pulled back in. I’m not a fan of current events being shoehorned into comics, and the oil spill wasn’t necessary to the story.
The Mera reveal at the end of the issue wasn’t what I was expecting, so well done.
The Pull List – 6/9/2010
2Another Fangirl Wednesday is upon us! This week’s purchases are:
I may also pick up Batman #700 if Lin doesn’t, and S.H.I.E.L.D. #2. I don’t usually read Marvel, but I fell in love with Dustin Weaver’s art during his run on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I’m willing to give it a shot for $2.99.
