When Fangirls Attack
0After a long hiatus, the link blog When Fangirls Attack is back. I was very happy to see that my RSS feed was full of links from WFA yesterday morning, so I will be catching up on links I might have missed thanks to them. WFA is one of the first women-centric comics blogs I found when I started tiptoeing into comics fandom, and they were missed in their absence.
The founders of WFA, Ragnell and Kalinara, have founded another link aggregator blog called Dispatches From the Fridge. Be sure to add this link to your RSS reader as well.
Random Thoughts and Links
0Happy Thanksgiving! Safe journeys to those who are traveling for the holiday.
Harry and the Horcruxes: I went to the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and I loved it. MUCH better than Half-Blood Prince. I’ll have more thoughts on the movie later this week (after I see the movie again).
Justice for All? Young Justice premieres on Cartoon Network this Friday. According to the press release, the episode will star Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash and Speedy. No Artemis or Miss Martian in the premiere? Shame on you. Artemis and Miss Martian are also omitted from the banner ads on the Cartoon Network website. Fail, Cartoon Network.
Wear Star Wars – Share Star Wars: I didn’t get a chance to blog about it, but the story of Katie, the young girl bullied for liking Star Wars, has been all over the ‘net. Katie’s mom has updated her blog in response to the outpouring of support Katie received. A Facebook event called “Wear Star Wars – Share Star Wars” has been created. Katie’s mom is asking each person make a donation of a single Star Wars/sci-fi toy to a shelter or hospital in addition to wearing Star Wars apparel on December 10. Please specify that the item can be given to a boy OR a girl, and let’s stop perpetuating the myth of “boys’ items” and “girls’ items”.
Turkeys for Turkey Day: DC Women Kicking Ass has posted her list of Turkeys served up by DC Comics this year. I agree with her turkeys, so go check it out.
Buffy Fail: Warner Brothers announced that creativity is officially dead in Hollywood that they are rebooting Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the big-screen without Joss Whedon’s involvement. This has FAIL written all over it. E! Online contacted Joss for his reaction, and it’s classic Joss.
Happy 90th Birthday, Noel Neill
1Tomorrow marks the 90th birthday of Noel Neill, who is most famous for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the Adventures of Superman television series from 1953-1958. She also played Lois in two Superman serials prior to the television series. In addition, she has had a number of Super-cameos and guest appearances over the years, including a cameo as young Lois’ mother in Superman (1978).
I had the pleasure of meeting Noel at Superman Celebration several years ago. She attends the Celebration each year, and she is as warm and gracious as you would hope. She truly is the “First Lady of Metropolis”.

Happy birthday, Noel!
Thoughts on DC’s Feb. 2011 Solicitations
0DC’s February 2011 solicits have hit the internet. The things that struck me as I read them:
- February is a good month to be Dustin Nguyen. He is credited with interiors on 2 books (Batgirl and Streets of Gotham) and 6 covers (JL: Generation Lost, Batman Beyond, Streets of Gotham, Batgirl and Superman 80-pg Giant).
- Damn, there are alot of Batbooks.
- DC really likes to use the same art team to draw the interiors and the cover. It happens 24 times in the month of February.
- There are 8 books where the title character(s) are female.
- My favorite cover is:
